Job Summary:

The QA/QC Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and adherence to standards of all maintenance activities both within the shop and on job sites in the field. This role involves overseeing inspection procedures, quality control measures, and compliance with safety regulations to uphold operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement quality assurance/control processes for industrial maintenance activities.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to quality inspections, testing, and non-conformance issues.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor maintenance personnel on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives accordingly.
  • Participate in project planning and scheduling to ensure QA/QC requirements are integrated into project timelines.
  • Ensure all equipment, tools, and materials used in maintenance activities meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Manage relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding QA/QC matters.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certified welding inspector (CWI) is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field, is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a QA/QC role.
  • Proven track record of implementing QA/QC processes and procedures.
  • Experience with industrial safety standards and regulations.
  • Familiarity with inspection techniques and quality testing methods.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, processes, and equipment.
  • Excellent understanding of quality management systems and standards (ISO 9001, API Q1, etc.).
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement.

Work Location and Travel:

  • This position is based in both the shop and field environments.
  • The shop location is 1171 Grill Road, Van Wert, Ohio, 45891.
  • Travel to job sites and client locations is required as per project needs.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment includes both indoor (shop) and outdoor (field) settings, with exposure to various weather conditions and industrial environments.
  • The role may involve working at heights and in confined spaces.

Physical Requirements:

Talk /Hear: Must have the ability to communicate information so welders and other team members will understand welding procedures/requirements, clarify issues, discuss inspection results, provide feedback, and set expectations.

Stand/Sit: Must have the ability to sit and stand in order to perform visual weld inspections while looking for defects, inconsistencies, or deviations from the required specifications. The inspection process often requires standing near the welds to observe them from different angles and distances.

Walk: Must be able to walk around construction sites, fabrication shops, or manufacturing facilities to inspect welds from different angles and distances.

Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Must be able to use hands and fingers to physically touch and feel welds, joints, and weld surfaces to find irregularities or defects that may not be visible. Will frequently use tools such as calipers, gauges, rulers to help measure dimensions, weld profiles, weld bead sizes, and other parameters. Will occasionally use magnifying lenses, flashlights, mirrors, and dye penetrant materials which requires handling and manipulation to position them correctly for detailed examination.

Climb: Occasionally may need to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas where welding work is performed which could include climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or platforms to reach welds on structures.

Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: People in this position will occasionally need to stoop, kneel crouch or crawl to perform inspections in confined or tight spaces where access is limited and cannot be accessed by sitting or standing.

See: Must be able to visually inspect welds to ensure they meet specific standards and requirements.

Carry, weight, Lift: Must be able to carry various inspection tools and equipment from one location to another. May need to handle inspection materials such as dye penetrants, magnetic particles, or radiographic films which can be heavy or require careful handling. May need to lift oneself over obstacles or uneven terrain or access inspection locations.

Exposure to work: This person may encounter physical hazards such as moving machinery, heavy equipment, elevated work areas, and uneven terrain while conducting inspections in construction sites, fabrication shops, or industrial plants. They may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes generated during welding processes. Considerable time will be spent in processing environments both in and outdoors. Welding operations can produce high levels of noise, which may exceed occupational exposure limits. Inspectors may work in environments where welding generates intense heat. This person may work outdoors or in environments where weather conditions can impact their work.
